Semi Permanent Make Up

Be your own kind of beautiful

What is Semi Permanent Make Up/SPMU?

Semi-Permanent Makeup is also called micro-pigmentation.

It is a new breakthrough procedure that enhances the appearance of eyebrows, eyeliner, lips and scalp as well as camouflages scars and other skin discolouration. It is a form of light penetration that gives a natural-looking cosmetic effect.

Cream anaesthetics are used prior to procedures and then extremely tiny amounts of natural pigments are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin. The result is a desired cosmetic effect, which will fade gradually over 9-18 months.

A “touch up” is recommended 4-6 weeks after your treatment to fix the initial application. A further touch up is required after 12 months to boost the colour and maintain a fresh appearance.

What is the difference between SPMU and Microblading?

Microblading is a technique were a freehand blade is used to create fine hair strokes that look very natural. Clients best for this technique are more mature clients with dryer skin types as their skin retains pigment better and last longer, also clients with good eyebrows which may want to fill in gaps or want a very natural look.

Clients with oily/thicker skin tend to have a thicker Dermis, they will need a deeper penetration when implanting pigment.

With SPMU a machine is used where the technician can change the length of the needles to the client’s skin. Also, any client that uses make-up to style their brows e.g. ombre, shading, powder and pencil will need SPMU brows as microblading will be too natural and they will use makeup on top to create the look they want. SPMU is also used for eyeliner, lips, beauty spots, freckles etc. as it lasts longer anywhere up to 3 years.

Imagine not having to spend time each day wrestling with your makeup. No matter the occasion, you’ll always look your absolute best!

For perfect and long-lasting results in semi-permanent makeup, treatments depend not only on the quality of the product and skills of the technician but also on the pre and post-procedure care.

Rebecca will complete a detailed medical history form and explain to the client about the treatment and procedures offered for SPMU.

Together with the client, a colour will be chosen, along with the design of the brows or lips.

A patch test will be done to make sure the client is not allergic to any of the products that will be used during the SPMU procedure.

The client will be asked to sign an agreement, stating that they accept the colour and design that was offered by the specialist.

Procedures 1st treatment

Numbing cream will be applied to the area where the treatment will take place to minimise any kind of discomfort.

The designed brows are drawn on to the brow shape with the client agreeing on the shape and colour again as in the consultation.

Needles are selected depending on what type of effect the client wants for the brows.

Rebecca will start with the first pass over the brows and start to implant pigment into the skin.

It is important to know the appearance of the initial procedural area will appear darker at first. All permanent cosmetic procedures will initially appear somewhat darker than the subsequently healed version.

The following explanation will provide the reason why this is so: To apply pigment in the upper dermis location of the skin, it is necessary to implant through the top layers of the skin, the epidermis. The epidermis layers of the skin collect, then exfoliates dead skin cells as new cells are produced.

As the dead skin cells are exfoliated, tiny particles of pigment that are trapped in the epidermis are also discarded.

When the total process is complete only the pigment in the dermis will remain. As a result, the density of the pigment is less and the appearance of the healed procedure naturally appears lighter.

Also, these new skin cells cover the procedural area causing it to be less visible than when initially implanted.

This will be repeated another 2 passes until the area has implanted enough pigment or the skin stops retaining pigment.

There fore that is why the top up 4-6 weeks later is very important.

Top up 2nd treatment

When the client comes back for the top-up treatment the brows will be patchy, uneven and even areas where the skin has not taken the pigment.

Every client will be different as our skin types, the thickness of skin, age and how our bodies reject pigment will differ.

With SPMU the technique lasts longer than Microblading and is better for Asian, Black skins and oily/ thick skin types.

The procedure is the same as the 1st treatment however it normally is quicker as there are some pigment and shape and it is a matter of redrawing the shape and filling in the areas that did not take the pigment in the first session.

As the body has experienced this before it will not reject the pigment as much the second time around.

Aftercare

  • No picking or touching scabs as this will pull the pigment out

  • Avoid getting the area wet for 7 days

  • No make-up to be applied in the area for 7 days as can cause infection

  • Avoid strong sun exposure, sunbeds and sunbathing for 2 weeks

  • No gym, sauna, steam room or swimming until brows are healed and stopped scabbing

  • No Beauty treatments in the area for 2 weeks after

PLEASE NOTE: THE RESULTS ARE VERY NATURAL AND CREATE A FULLER LOOKING BROW. INITIALLY, THE BROWS APPEAR DARKER BUT FADE SIGNIFICANTLY OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD. IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL TO HAVE A TOUCH UP DONE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO PREDICT HOW WELL YOUR SKIN WILL RETAIN THE PIGMENT. DUE TO THIS AND MANY OTHER VARYING FACTORS, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR RESULTS.
