Gut Microbiome

Your gut bacteria and the integrity of your gut lining strongly affect your health and according to numerous studies, undesirable bacterial products called endotoxins can sometimes leak through your gut lining and enter your bloodstream. Your immune system then recognizes these foreign molecules and attacks them — resulting in chronic inflammation.

Our Microbiome Affects Many Things

Having the right balance is critical for optimal health, as our Microbiome affects so many aspects of our lives. For example our mood – are you aware that 90% of the Serotonin, a.k.a. The Happy Hormone, is manufactured in your gut?

Perhaps you have trouble sleeping? That could be due to a shortage of Melatonin, the Darkness Hormone which encourages good sleep – again produced in the gut. Dopamine, the Motivation Hormone, Oxytocin, which looks after Love, trust and Self-esteem and Noradrenaline which gives you your “Get up and Go” are ALL produced in the Gut – when it is in the right balance.

Add to those food cravings, weight management, digestion and metabolism, brain health, fertility and many other things – you can see how important having a balanced Gut Microbiome is.

What Can Affect Our Microbiome?

So what things can affect our Gut Microbiome?

Our lifestyle and the foods we eat are the biggest factors – and the most obvious, but many other things also can play a part.

For example, the amount of medication we are prescribed for common ailments – it can take up to 6 months for your gut to get over a course of antibiotics. When they are needed, antibiotics can be life-savers, but the routine overuse of such medication can cause us serious stomach issues.

Even the way in which we were born can affect our Microbiome, with C-Section babies having a lower variation of good microbes, but this can be resolved with a Microbiome Gut rebalance.

Not All Food Is Created Equal

Diet is a major factor in keeping a balanced Microbiome – remember, we are what we absorb. But it is not as simple as just saying “Don’t eat this – and do eat that”.

Over the last 50 years, we have, as consumers, demanded our foods to be provided to us in easier, longer-lasting, more colourful ways – and this has had an impact on the nutrition of the foods we consume today. That burger, for example, was made to look healthy, but is it?

Our desire to keep food “Shelf-stable” for longer, to look more appetizing, to have “low-fat” or “low-sugar” alternatives has meant that we have moved from food which pretty much did what it said on the box, to something else entirely.

We have sacrificed good quality nutrition for ease and convenience. We can blame the manufacturers to an extent, but ultimately they are delivering what we are demanding.

Pollution

POPs – Persistent Organic Pollutants

Whilst there are aspects of Environmental Pollution that we can affect through education and changing mindsets, there is another area that we can more directly affect.

POPs can play a significant negative effect on human health and the environment. We are exposed to POPs in a variety of ways, mainly through the food we eat, but also through the air, we breathe and, in many products, used in our daily lives.

Manufacturers have added POPs to improve product characteristics, examples are surfactants, like detergents, emulsifiers, foaming agents and dispersants. As a result, POPs can be found virtually everywhere on our planet in measurable concentrations and that means they are also found in us.

Leaky Gut Syndrome

For some people, the lining of the gut wall can become damaged – this lining, called the intestinal mucosal barrier, consists of a single layer of cells. The junctions between these cells are usually kept very tight.

However, when bad bacteria attacks this gut lining, it can cause what doctors call “intestinal permeability” and what we know as Leaky Gut Syndrome.

People suffering from this syndrome can experience a range of conditions, due to bacteria, toxins and sometimes even undigested food passing through these leaky junctions into the bloodstream, which then causes the body to react by trying to defend itself – causing systemic inflammation.

The 21-day gut detox for beginners

First, you need to purchase the 21-day gut detox. you have 2 choices either you can go online to www.synergyworldwide.co.uk and purchase the purify kit and follow the instructions I am given you and do the detox on your own. The detox costs around £250 and this is the cheapest way you can do the detox. You will not be able to get any coaching from me, be added to any of the support groups available and you will need to guide yourself through the detox and any symptoms you may experience during the 21 days while you are detoxing and resetting your gut microbiome.

Everyone is different and symptoms during 1-5 during the die-off phase can range from very mild to quite moderate depending on your health conditions and the gut microbiome. Some clients may find the detox quite easy while others may struggle and need support, advice, and coaching on diet and find the support groups really helpful.

For me personally doing the first detox I would recommend paying the £50 extra for the additional support, programme booklet and excess to the groups to get the most out of the detox and if any symptoms you are unsure of you always have a coach to ensure you everything is ok or explain why they may be happening.

over the last 3 years, I have noticed a lot of clients who are not properly educated in healthy eating, portion size, vegetarian and what balance of foods they should be eating to control blood sugar, energy levels, hormonal imbalances e.t.c

This is why this detox is so helpful as you will start to eat better, enjoy healthy food and realise how your body and mental health feel different while eating clean & healthy.

The second option is to purchase the detox through me and get a full consultation, programme booklet and healthcare questionnaire to see where your health and symptoms are before starting the detox and are able to keep track of your progress during the detox. The programme also has recipes and explains in more detail about each product and what it does during the detox. The programme will explain how to do the detox, what supplements to take and the plan of when to take everything is also included in the programme. I will provide you with coaching throughout the whole detox and check in every few days to make sure you have all the products and foods for the detox, any symptoms you may be experiencing feel free to message or call me and I will explain why you are getting them and what can help.

You will also have access to the private Facebook page which is filled with homemade healthy gut-friendly recipes, mediation, advice, exercise advice and much more........

You will be added to the Whatt's up group where everyone that is new to the 21-day gut detox will be doing the detox together and all the synergy worldwide coaches are on there to answer any questions or give additional advice if needed. We will review how you are feeling and redo the healthcare questionnaire to see how many health conditions have improved from the detox and any additional support you may need going forward after the detox. The cost for the detox & coaching from me is £299. Well worth the extra £50.

How to do the detox?

Once you have received your 21-day gut detox you will need to buy purified gut-friendly foods. I have made this as easy as I can for beginners that may not have a good understanding of what is healthy food and what is and is not allowed during the detox.

what is not allowed during the detox:

Bread, biscuits, grains, chocolate, sweets, cakes, butter, pastry, rice, pasta, gluten, wheat, and dairy (bio live culture, sour cream, cottage cheese & PDO feta cheese is aloud). fizzy drinks, milkshakes, fruit juices, sugar, honey, alcohol, tea, coffee & sweeteners. Smoking (reduce as much as possible) processed foods (anything in a packet premade, premade salads & pickled foods. Peanuts, nuts from under the ground or processed, dried fruit, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green peas, swedes, sweetcorn, turnips and any starchy vegetables. No sauces or packet-made herbs & spices (unless made from scratch from the purified friendly list. No gravy cubes, or stock cubes (you can make your own meat broth from the purified friendly food list).

Medication- continue with any prescribed medications but try to avoid the over-the-counter medication and pain killers. Smoking introduces toxins into your body. If you can, we recommend that you stop smoking/vaping or at least reduce it. The critical period is days 6-12.

Portion control is very important. However, in general, eating as many vegetables as you like will not do any harm. You will need to replace your rice & pasta with servings of vegetables or legumes. Most people find that as their body begins to absorb more nutrition from the food, they eat less. This is especially true if you previously ate a lot of foods with added sugar.

What you can have during the detox:

It's best to buy organic food if you can and make sure you read all labels carefully to make sure there are no hidden ingredients you can not have especially hidden sugary, diary & wheat. I found Tescos to have the best variety.

Dairy- unsweetened almond & coconut milk, bio culture yoghurt, kefir, sour cream, cottage cheese & PDO feta cheese.

fruits- apples, apricots, bananas, berries, cherries, grapefruit, grapes, kiwi, mangos, melon, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, pineapple, plums and tangerines. It is advised to have 3 pieces a day and make sure you have with protein to help stabilise blood sugar (yoghurt & nuts).

Legumes- soybeans, dried beans, lentils, canned beans in water & chickpeas.

Protein- fish, shellfish, beef, lamb, poultry, wild game, eggs, cottage cheese, low-fat cheese, vegetarian/vegan tofu, tempeh, seitan, homemade veggie burgers & nuts from trees (almonds, hazel nuts, brazil nuts e.t.c).

Seasoning & condiments- dry & fresh herbs, all spices, mustard, lemon & lime juice, salsa, vinegar, soy sauce, stevia, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, Himalayan salt, black pepper, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, almond flour, lemon, seeds e.t.c

Vegetables- fresh lettuces & greens, such as spinach and kale, artichoke, asparagus, aubergine, bamboo shoots, bean sprout, beet, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, celery, mange, tout, peppers, spring onion, cucumber, courgette, eggplant, fennel, garlic, green bean, jicama, leek, mushroom, okra, onion, pepper, radish, scallions, shallot, snap pea, snow pea, squash, tomato, garlic, water chestnut.

You are advised to drink at least 2 litres of water which does not include the water added to the supplements each day during the detox to flush out as many toxins in the body. you can have organic herbal tea or add fruit to your water to make it taste nicer if you are not used to drinking lots of water. Also, a 30-minute brisk walk is recommended to help move the body while detoxing but no hard cardio or workouts as the body will be repairing & healing itself.

So now you know what you can and cannot do on the detox. I would recommend buying your food shop before starting the detox and it may be easier for people who have busy lives to pre-make some meals to take the stress out of figuring out what to eat each day. I make smoothies and put some in the fridge and the rest in the freezer, frozen fruit and vegetables are allowed on the detox.

If you are struggling to see what meals you can eat from the purified friendly list I have given you some ideas below;

Breakfast; fruit bowel- yoghurt, 3 pieces of fruit, seeds & nuts, water or herbal tea to drink.

Salmon, avocado, eggs & tomato, water to drink or herbal tea.

fried egg in extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, tomatoes & mushrooms,

Omelette, salmon, avocado or mushrooms, water, lemon water & ginger or herbal tea to drink.

lunch: greek salad- tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, red onion, fresh olives & feta cheese. You can make homemade Humus from the purified food list. water or herbal tea to drink.

Chicken salad- and any vegetables from the purified food list.

Egg salad, Tuna salad & Salmond salad.

Fish & vegetables, Stir-fried prawns with garlic, ginger, spring onion, prawns, toasted chillis and green beans. Chicken stir-fry with cauliflower rice, courgette, soy sauce, herbs and spices instead of sauce.

fruit salad, soups or bone broth.

snacks; fruit, nuts, smoothies, olives, eggs, celery, soups & hummus e.t.c

Dinner; vegetable casserole, chicken casserole, chicken & vegetables, fish & vegetables, soups, stuffed peppers with cauliflower rice, vegetables & feta cheese. Chicken or beef, lamb stews with homemade stock from the purified food list. Lentil soup, chicken curry & cauliflower rice. You can use lettuce to replace bread for homemade burgers or wraps.

During the detox, there are 6 supplements to take with water so you will fill a lot fuller during days 6- 21.

once the detox has finished you will slowly need to start reintroducing food groups back in 1 at a time given 5 days before starting another food group and monitor how your body feels. some food intolerance may not affect you anymore because the gut lining (leaky gut ) may have been healed or reduced inflammation in the body. Everyone is different and more than 1 detox may be required. Minimum time in between detoxes I would recommend every 3 months. The detox still heals the body and detoxes for 3 months after. I would advise trying to stick to eating as many purified foods as these are the most healthy clean foods to help support your gut.

There are 2 different programmes you can do with the detox.

programme 1 is for people who want to lose weight and you will need to monitor your portion control. There also is a Protein shake that you will start to take on days 6-12 instead of 2 meals. I have seen clients lose up to 1 stone during this detox.

Programme 2 is for anyone who does not want to lose any weight or is an athlete or people with high activity jobs who need more calories. In this case, you can eat as many foods from the purified friendly list as often as you like.

Program 1

Day 1-5 is where you will eat 3 times a day, morning, lunch and dinner from the purified friendly list and drink plenty of water and do 30 mins walk. In the evening you will take 2 body primes with your evening meal to help get your gut ready for the detoxifying stage and to start getting the bowels moving regular and you will notice you will sleep better due to the magnesium. You may start to notice some die-off symptoms during this time as the body starts to starve the bad bacteria.

Day 6-12 is the intense stage this is where you will take all supplements listed below at certain times with plenty of water and do a 30-minute walk every day. I recommend setting an alarm clock with the supplement you are meant to take so you do not forget to take them.

wake up at 7 am- ProArgi-9 with water. 8 am- 2x Biome shake scoops, 1 Biome actives. 11 am- 1 sachet of DT sachets in a glass of water. 1 pm 2 Biome scoops and 1 x actives. 4 pm 1 Biome DT sachets, 7 pm- 2 x body prime and 1 biome actives, bedtime 1 ProArgi-9 Sachet.

Day 13-21 is called building the new you. you may have 1 serving left of the biome shake and will now need to go back to eating 3 times a day from the purified friendly food list and I would have your meals where you were having the replacement shake with the Biome Activities. You could purchase another Biome shake and continue to do another intense week if you would like to do a deeper detox or would like to lose more weight. I would order these when you order your detox before you start.

Day 21- re-introducing healthy carbohydrates and notice how you feel when eating them, Start slow otherwise you will feel quite ill if you try an indulge.

programme 2- Is the same order you need to take the supplements and at the above times but you can eat as many meals, and portions as you like from the purified friendly list, at day 21 start slow and introduce foods 1 group at a time and give 5 days before starting another food group to see how your body feels.

So now you know the options, if you choose to do the detox by yourself I hope you enjoy the process, learn a lot about the foods you are eating and listen to your body. If you would like me to coach you, give you recipes and advice, get support throughout your detox and like to be added to the private support groups please contact me on my contact number or email and I will get you booked in for a consultation.
