Calming active acne facial

There are actually 4 different types of acne and each type should be treated differently with separate facials and skincare products. This facial is for active, sore, inflamed, cystic, hormonal acne. Any skin type, ethic and age from puberty can experience this skin concern. Not a lot of beauty therapists/skin specialists will know the difference in Acne skin types and often Acne is treated the same with harsh exfoliates, chemicals peels, harsh acids and benzoyl peroxide which will increase sensitivity, inflammation and fry the top layer of skin. Another big no no I commonly see is clients using foaming cleansers or acne soaps to dry out their skin to try to prevent oil production and breakouts.

Types of Acne

Acne is classified into groups based on treatment and increasing levels of severity and scarring.

Grade 1 = Mild Non inflammatory non-scarring acne with open and closed comedones only.

Grade 2 = Moderate Inflammatory and noninflammatory non-scarring acne with open and closed comedones and some papules and pustules.

Grade 3= Severe Inflammatory acne and noninflammatory acne with open and closed comedones and extensive papules and pustules.

Grade 4= Very Severe Very inflammatory scarring acne and non inflammatory acne with open and closed comedones, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts.

How our High Frequency Facial works?

The high frequency produces low-level electrical currents at high frequencies.
The high frequency electrodes are made of clear tempered glass. When this electrode is firmly inserted into the high frequency handpiece, a gentle alternating current is generated by the high frequency machine which passes through the attached electrode on contact with the skin. The gas electrode is filled with argon or neon gas.
The High Frequency has a germicidal and anti-bacterial effect on the skin heeling acne.

What steps are included in the Calming active acne facial?

The skin will be cleansed with an calming gel cleanser to thoroughly clean the skin.
The skin will then be treated with solution 2 (salicylic acid) from the Pro-hydra facial to help calm, treat, prevent & heal active acne. Also the suction is great at removing stubborn blackheads and hydrates the skin.
The skin is further prepped so it is receptive to the electrical treatment.
An exfoliation treatment mask will be carried out to gently exfoliate the skin.
The high frequency treatment will be carried out using a glass electrode for 8-10 minutes.
light extraction will be done on white & blackheads only!

(cystic acne can not be extracted as it is too deep in the skin)

An soothing, healing, deep cleansing purifying Mask will be applied to the skin.
The treatment is finished off with healing serum and oil free moisturiser.
SPF, eye cream & lip balm.

Maintenance facials are 1hr and for clients that get monthly hormonal breakouts or a sudden breakout but on the whole the skin is not to badly affected. Clients have a fairly good skincare routine. Facials are recommended 4-6 weeks.

Deluxe facials are 90 mins and included the face, neck and chest, a facial massage is included, steam and longer time for extraction if needed. This facial is better for clients that have congestion on the chest and lots of breakouts and blackheads. A course of 6-8 treatments would be best for this skin type, 1 every week.

How dose the treatment feel?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable.
Extraction can feel a little sensitive.
You will feel very mild electric current, most clients find the treatment relaxing.

How many treatments are required?

We recommend having the treatments once a week for a minimum of 6-8 sessions and then maintenance sessions thereafter.

Are there any side effects?

High frequency is considered extremely safe. There are very limited possible side effects, all of them relatively mild (short-term skin irritation for example).
